Since 2008 the citadel of Blaye and the Vauban's fortifications are inscribed on the world heritage list by Unesco inside the network of the Major Vauban Sites.
The Vauban's fortifications on the estuary prevented enemies to go to Bordeaux. "The Vauban's bolt" was composed of three forts : the citadel of Blaye, the Pâté fort and the Medoc fort. And the Major Vauban Sites network counts 11 buildings everywhere in France, representatives of the architect brain from the 17th century, Sébastien Le Prestre, Marquis of Vauban.
